Debunking Common VR Myths

Published

When people consider implementing Virtual Reality into their organisation, they’re often hesitant for a number of ‘reasons’ that are actually VR myths. We’ve decided to put together some of these common VR myths and debunk them.

VR is just for gaming

Although Virtual Reality headsets for consumer use are often aimed towards playing video games, they can be used for so much more. RedboxVR have been supplying VR hardware for educational and enterprise use for well over a decade. The out-of-the-box nature of our Virtual Reality Kits makes them perfect for this purpose and removes all of the headaches around setup and integration.

VR causes motion sickness

Using a Virtual Reality headset should be an immersive and comfortable experience. If it isn’t, this usually means that something is wrong with the calibration of your headset. Motion sickness in VR can be reduced by adjusting the interpupillary distance (IPD) on the headset to reduce eye strain and by making sure to take regular breaks.

VR is too expensive

Of course, there are costs associated with introducing VR into your organisation. But the benefits that they can bring far outweigh the cost. For example, for education, a VR Kit may cost a similar amount to a couple of physical school trips. However, the headsets can be used long after the trip would’ve ended. A VR Kit is essentially a school bus that never needs fuel.

VR is a nightmare to set up

This would be true if purchasing headsets through a typical high street retailer. However, we take all of the difficulty out of the equation. Our in-house team take care of all of the setup so that your VR Headsets are ready to go straight out of the box. This includes:

  • Updating the headset firmware to the latest version
  • Install the chosen VR Software onto the headsets
  • Setting up new accounts with company credentials
  • Building our Multi-User VR Kits, allocating headsets and cables
  • Enrol headsets onto MDM’s such as ManageXR and ArborXR
